Friends,
These are undoubtedly difficult days for many who call the UMC their home. There is division, contention, and a lot of emotions involved as churches seek to discern if they will remain UMC. Perhaps your church is one of those. You may have questions on what this means for you, your family, or your church. You may even be wondering if there will be a UMC presence in your area. During all the uncertainty, we hope that this page can serve as a resource for you as you discern where to land.
As we have continued to meet with various churches in process, one stark reality grieves our heart and that is the fact that so many people feel as if they no longer have a place to call their church home. Some are just tired of the fighting while others are over the conversation. And then there are still some who feel as if their local congregation has chosen a different path than the one, they wish to travel.
The Northeast District is committed to creating safe spaces to follow Jesus. We are actively working to help find new church homes for those that would like to stay UMC, create new ministries in areas that may be without a UMC presence, and allowing anyone to transfer their membership to the District while searching for a new church home. If the District can help you in any way during this time, please don't hesitate to reach out. Please share with friends, family, or church members that may feel lost during this time so that we may be a resource to them as well.
Sincerely,
